A Complete Bedroom Overhaul with Spoonflower
What started as the most neglected room in Greer's house is now one of her favorite spaces, all thanks to a single wallpaper pattern that sparked the entire vision. It’s proof that even small rooms can handle big design moments, especially when the details work together effortlessly.
When we bought our home in January of 2024, we knew we were signing up for a full renovation, and over the past two years we’ve poured our energy into transforming almost every room. But somewhere along the way, our bedroom slipped to the bottom of the priority list. Aside from a deep clean and a fresh coat of paint, it basically sat untouched while we tackled bigger projects around the house.
Even though it wasn’t getting much attention, I’ve always dreamed of having a bedroom that felt like a true oasis - cozy, calm, and inviting. A space where we could unwind at the end of the day and wake up feeling restored. I knew I wanted to give the room a proper makeover, but with such a small footprint and so many competing design ideas swirling in my head, I wasn’t sure where to start.
That all changed when I was scrolling through Spoonflower and found Danika Herrick’s Ikat Pomegranate Wallpaper in Quiet Blues. The moment I saw it, something clicked. The soft blues, the detailed pattern, the grasscloth texture - it was exactly the inspiration I’d been waiting for. Once the wallpaper became the grounding element, everything else fell into place. I was nervous about filling such a small 11x11ft room with so much print, but surprisingly, the wallpaper made the room feel larger while still keeping it warm and intimate. The color palette instantly transformed the space into the relaxing retreat I’d always envisioned.
Designing the room around the wallpaper made choosing coordinating fabrics and furnishings incredibly easy, and I chose other designs by Danika Herrick for the curtains, pillow cases, and fabric that flowed seamlessly together.
Because every wall in our bedroom either has a window or a door, layout options were limited, and storage was a must. We decided to lean into a creative solution: placing the bed in front of one of the windows and using six Fairfield print curtain panels behind the bed to create the illusion of a full wall. The curtains bring softness, symmetry, and height to the room, but we can still slide them open whenever we want the natural light. It’s the perfect blend of function and style, and it made the room feel instantly more intentional.
To tie everything together, I added a small DIY touch that made a surprising impact. Instead of replacing our bedside sconces altogether, I used Loom & Lore by Holly’s Elegant Lace Stripes fabric to create pleated lampshades with nothing more than the fabric, hot glue, and patience. The deep navy stripes add just the right amount of contrast against the softer blues of the wallpaper and curtains, pulling the whole palette together and giving the lighting a custom, designer feel.
Little details like the patterned shams and coordinating lumbar pulled the whole room together, and every Spoonflower piece contributed to making the space feel truly custom and designer. This makeover has completely changed the way our bedroom feels, and the way we use it.
