Floral Prints & Vintage Vibes: My Favorite Loungewear Sewing Project

Hi, I’m Gabriela, a self-taught sewist, mom, and blogger based in Chicago. My passion for sewing started three years ago, and from the moment I picked up a needle, I haven’t stopped creating. Sewing has become my favorite way to express myself, and one of the things I love most is making matching outfits with my daughter. It brings me so much joy to create pieces that reflect both of our personalities while having fun together. Choosing the Right Fabrics for Everyday Wear

For this project, I wanted to create loungewear that felt beautiful and wearable. something I could enjoy daily, not just on special occasions. That’s why I chose Organic Cotton Sateen and Polartec® Fleece from Spoonflower. The Organic Cotton Sateen has a soft feel with a luxurious sheen that makes it ideal for a pajama set. What I loved about working with it: it’s easy to press and sew (no slipping or puckering), it holds structure beautifully and it looks and feels luxe without being fussy. The top has a classic button-up style, and the pants are high-waisted with a loose, straight leg—super comfortable and flattering. The best part? It’s just as perfect for lazy mornings as it is for stepping out chic.

A Vintage-Inspired Robe in Floral Polartec® Fleece

I’ve always admired the elegance of 1940s robes—long, flowing. For this piece, I used an authentic vintage sewing pattern from the 1940s because I’m such a big fan of that timeless, glamorous look for everyday wear around the house. To bring it to life, I chose Polartec® Fleece in a soft floral design by artist amy_maccready, and honestly I couldn’t chose a different one. It’s soft, warm, easy to sew and it drapes beautifully. Sewing for Everyday Joy

This project reminded me that sewing doesn’t always have to be about the big, bold pieces. Sometimes, the most satisfying makes are the ones we wear the most.
