Renter-Friendly Wallpaper for a Cozy, Layered Nursery

Rachel Forslund wanted to find a way to bring color, warmth, and personality into her room while still staying within the rental guidelines, leading her straight to Spoonflower’s Peel and Stick wallpaper.

Nursery with floral wallpaper and crib
Designing my daughter’s nursery has quickly become one of my all-time favorite projects—equal parts creatively fulfilling and just plain fun. As a renter, I wanted to find a way to bring color, warmth, and personality into her room while still staying within the rental guidelines, which is what led me straight to Spoonflower’s peel and stick wallpaper. I knew the right wallpaper would completely transform the space, but I wasn’t expecting just how easy (and fun!) the process would be. I’m so excited to share with you how I used Spoonflower’s renter-friendly peel and stick wallpaper to create a cozy, layered nursery. From choosing the wallpaper design, to installation, and finally to styling the rest of the space, I hope my experience helps you bring your own design vision to life—whether you’re renting or simply want a worry-free, temporary wallpaper solution.

    Starting with a Vision

When I started concepting the design for my daughter’s nursery, I knew I wanted a cohesive look with the other rooms in our home - warm, cozy, and layered. Instead of starting with paint or furniture, I decided to let the wallpaper lead the way and build the rest of the color palette and design around my wallpaper design choice.

Spoonflower’s peel and stick wallpaper checked every box for me:

    • Renter-friendly and removable without damage
    • High-quality prints that look elevated and custom
    • Hundreds of thousands of designs from independent artists
    • Zero commitment if I decide to swap it out down the road
Wallpaper instantly gave the nursery its personality, turning a blank rental room into something that felt intentional and full of heart—exactly the feeling I wanted her to be surrounded by from the very beginning.

    Choosing your wallpaper design

If you’ve ever been on Spoonflower’s website, you already know this part: the options are endless. I loved scrolling through pages and pages of designs created by artists from around the world. Florals, geometrics, whimsical patterns, soft neutrals… whatever vibe you have in mind, Spoonflower has an option for you. I saved dozens of patterns to my favorites before narrowing it down, and with the ability to search by color, theme, style, etc., finding the perfect wallpaper among their many options was so easy. After adding a few different versions into my moodboard, I finally found the design, and it felt like in that moment the whole space just clicked. The wallpaper became the anchor for the entire nursery, inspiring every other choice that followed.

    Installation That’s Shockingly Easy

The wallpaper arrived and my husband and I wasted no time getting started - I mean how were we supposed to wait a second longer to watch the magic unfold?! Thinking this would be a multiple day project, we were excited when we realized just how easy and fun this process would be. The peel and stick wallpaper is thick in nature, making it incredibly easy to work with - it didn’t stretch or bubble, and as a wallpaper newb, this ease was SO welcomed. The patterns matched up perfectly from strip to strip, and the best part is you can peel off and reposition with ease if you don’t get it right the first time - no panic, no stress! I ordered an extra panel expecting to make at least one mistake, but honestly, the ease of installation left no room for that! Seeing the first panel go up—perfectly aligned and instantly transformative—made us so excited to keep going. Within a couple of hours, the entire room had a new energy. With the leftover scraps, I was able to wallpaper the inside of the nursery closet, and even line the dresser drawers - if that doesn’t show you how obsessed I am with the pattern, I don’t know what will!

Designing the Rest of the Nursery Around the Wallpaper

One of my favorite parts of using wallpaper as the foundation is how seamlessly it guides the rest of the design process. Once the pattern was up, the remaining decisions felt obvious and effortless. My wallpaper choice guided the remaining color palette, a process that in some cases can take many iterations to get right. I pulled complimentary tones from the wallpaper print to choose drapery, textiles, ceiling color, and even furniture. Since the wallpaper brought such a vibrant personality to the walls, I balanced it with softer neutrals and warm honey wood tones. To follow suit with the rest of our home, which is furnished entirely with second hand treasures, we found special vintage furniture pieces to give that sweet, layered charm I’d been hoping for from the beginning. The wallpaper tied everything together and made the nursery feel like a thoughtful, cozy fairytale for my daughter.

    CONCLUSION

Designing this nursery has been one of the most joyful parts of preparing for my daughter’s arrival, and Spoonflower’s peel and stick wallpaper played such a huge role in bringing the space to life. It gave me the freedom to design boldly, even as a renter, without worrying about commitment or damage. And the process, from choosing a pattern to installing it, was genuinely so much fun. I’ve painted every room in our house, and wallpapering has breathed a completely different energy into the space and design process. It feels almost like a graduation from paint, and my interior designs have been opened up to a whole new world of choices and opportunities. Don’t be surprised if you hear from me again with wallpaper updates on other rooms in our house ;) I hope this inspires you to create a space you love—one full of character, warmth, and meaningful layers.
